Amazing Bubble Magic of Tom Noddy

I had the privilege of meeting this man, Mr Tom Noddy at the Oregon Country Fair last weekend.

In addition to what you see in the videos he also created a dodecahedron bubble and a giant torus bubble. He made a bunch of smoke filled bubbles and normal bubbles spin around inside of larger bubbles. He blew an inside-out bubble. He also had a lot of hilarity to share with the crowd. At the fair he used a hand held smoke machine to blow the smoke.

He makes this look easy. It’s not. Experience shows that bubbles pop and getting them to exist for a time in the size and spot you want them too is an exercise in futility. Prior to performing for the public, he spent ten years just working on his bubble technique.

In addition to blowing bubbles he also entertained the crowd with a mouse puppet. (Hmm sounds kind of familiar.) Noddy is a great inspiration to me. Bubbles are a certain kind of magic; floating, existing in the moment. Noddy explained that the rainbows on bubbles are generated by varying widths of the soap on the surface of the bubble. The soap width changes and so do the spectra you see.

At the fair he gave more of an explanation of the mystic nature of the dodecahedron to the Pythagoreans.

His report with the kids was great. The kids who got on stage during his show were named Indigo and Luna. Gotta love the Oregon Country Fair. The fact that he says the same things in both videos (and at the fair) shows you how much polish he has put into this. I have tried to do just a small bit of what you see here, let me tell you, I am surprised he did it in 10 years, it would probably take me 20.
