Experience Magic Now

Its time to experience real magic. If you have never done magic before, this will be your first time. Don’t worry, it is a little dangerous, but no one will be hurt.

Find a pack of cards. If you don’t have cards, you can still do the trick with a stack of business cards or pieces of paper and mark one for your card. It is best if the playing cards are older so they will have had much training, but new eager cards are fine too. Give them a good shuffle.

We take off a group of cards. The ancient book says “three to the third” so that’s 27 cards. Take twenty seven cards from the deck and give them a good mixing.

It is time to pick your card. Look through the cards and select one because it has something that you want, or something that you identify with. It could be a six of hearts because of the hearts or because of the six but it is the card that you want and you know why. Now look very hard at your card and think about that desire, that wish that brought you to the card. It’s time! Mix it into the rest of the cards and give them a good shuffle.

Please be sure that they are good and mixed and that I have no way of knowing where your card is. Put nine cards into a pile face down on the table. Next to it put another nine cards and the last nine make a third pile. Check to see which pile has your card and leave it there. Shuffle that pile well and put it back on the table face down.

Now pick up another pile, shuffle it and drop it face down on top of the packet that has your card. Take the third pile and shuffle it and set it on the table, by itself. You now have two piles of different sizes. Drop the larger packet on top of the smaller one.

Now deal the cards into three piles face down. One to the left, one in the center, one on the right. Keep dealing the cards until you are done and then peek to see which pile your card is in. Gather up the piles into one stack in such a way that the one containing your card is on top of the others but the cards are all face down.

Deal the cards again, this time face up, into three piles – left, center, right Once again notice which pile your card falls. Pick up that pile and turn it face down in your hands.

Take the bottom three cards from that packet and put them on top.

Think of magic. Imagine whatever it is that pops in your head when you hear the word “magic.” Think of the magic that you already have and use every day. Spell the word M-A-G-I-C, moving one face down card for each letter from the top of the face down packet in your hands to the bottom of the packet. Hold on to the last card, the card corresponding to the “C” at the end of “MAGIC” and put the rest of the cards aside.

Now it is time to think of your card. Not just any old card – remember the original intention, the wish, the desire that brought you to your card in the first place. Say the name of your card out loud in a clear voice.

Now turn over the card in your hands.
